It’s Your Halftime!

Can you believe that it’s already the middle of the year?? Let that sink in for a second. If you’re like me you may often be so busy trying to get your normal day to day things done that you may not take time to pause to see where you’ve been and where you’re going.

In sports halftime is the period between the halves of a game. During this time teams reflect on what worked in the first half and what didn’t; and then create their game plan for what they need to do to win the game. In the the same way, I’m going to suggest you take some time….right now…to reflect on what’s worked for you, what hasn’t worked so that you can create your game plan to finish this year strong!

In other words I am encouraging you to take advantage of this time as your own personal “halftime.”

I want you to think about the following questions: Don’t rush. Take your time. Most importantly, be honest!

  • What were your professional, personal, financial, relational, spiritual goals/dreams/desires for 2019?
  • Are you where you wanted to be/hoped you would be/though you would be professionally, personally, financially, relationally etc.?
  • Hmmm….did you set any goals for 2019?? (If not, set goals NOW that you’d like to accomplish by the end of 2019.)

In the areas where you said “YES”:

  • What do you need to do to stay on track?
  • Are there goals that need to be readjusted? (Did you set some goals too low? Has your needs/wants/desires changed since the beginning of the year? Has your situation changed since the beginning of the year?)

In the areas where you said “NO”:

  • What is one thing I can do right now to move forward in that area? Pause and really listen to that internal voice you have that often tells you exactly what you need to know.
  • Then commit to doing that one thing when you said you were going to. When you’ve done that one thing, think of the next step you can take and take that step. Don’t worry about the speed, pace or results. Just focus on taking the steps you know you need to take.
  • After a month or two, look back and measure your results and/or those action items you’ve committed to doing. See where you are compared to where you hoped you would be and also where you were. Celebrate the progress you’ve made and make a plan to close the gap between where you are and where you want to be.

Why is “halftime” important? Remember, it’s now how you start-it’s how you finish!!
