If you’ve read a few of my blog posts you know that I am a huge Hallmark Christmas Movie fan. One of my favorites is one called “Let it Snow”-starring Candace Cameron-Bure (she’s good for at least one Christmas movie a year, right?) and in the movie she stays at a mountain resort that goes all out for the Holiday season. In the days leading to Christmas the resort has a special-themed dinner that is different and unique for each day, and (of course) the guests love it!

This got me thinking about what communities can do on the lead-up to Christmas (and then even New Year’s) to create a sense of community among residents and prospects, and also create a fun and festive atmosphere for the on-site team. Hallmark Channel calls it’s Christmas movie series “Countdown to Christmas” so what if you did the same thing in your community?
Think about the possibilities!
- 12 days to Christmas: “Gingerbread Cookie Day” Come into the office for delicious gingerbread cookies all day.
- 11 days to Christmas: “Hot Chocolate Day” Enjoy a delicious cup of hot chocolate to help you warm you up while it’s cold outside.
- 10 days to Christmas: “Order your last minute presents online day!” If you need to make an online order, and don’t want the secret to be out, the computers in our business center make excellent “Santa’s Helpers!” And you can enjoy a cup of our special Holiday blend coffee while you’re at it.
- 9 days to Christmas: “Grandma’s Cookies Day” One of our favorite Christmas memories is Grandma baking her delicious chocolate-chip cookies. Grandma baked some today, just for you. Stop by the office and grab one (or a couple!)
- 8 days to Christmas: “Put Up Your Stocking Day!” Our residents are our family here, so we want to make sure that you have your very own stocking decoration up in the office! We’ll provide the supplies, if you promise to bring some “Christmas cheer!”
- 7 days to Christmas: “Letters to Santa Day” Have you mailed your letter to Santa yet? Well if you haven’t, you can drop them off at the office and we’ll make sure they get to where they need to go!” Just drop them off in the special Santa mailbox, or give it to any staff member in the office.
You get the idea! The possibilities for creativity, fun and engagement are endless!
